Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) Benson Relief Road Project.
The southern stretch of the planned Benson Relief Road opened yesterday
(18th December) and traffic will be able to use this to access the Cala development. The road will be signed as a “No through road” until the Relief Road opens completely in Spring 2026. OCC have informed Satnav providers regarding this.
When the Benson Relief Road was first planned the speed limit was proposed to be 50mph. However, following concerns expressed by the stakeholders involved this was reassessed and was reduced to 30mph. The speed limit and any other road safety issues will be reviewed again when the road opens to through traffic.
Currently, there is a controlled pedestrian crossing by Great Mead and another will be installed where the existing footpath crosses to Roke. There will also be a roundabout on the crossing with Hale Road.
There will also be a safety audit by OCC within a few days of opening.
