Update – August 2025

Alongside the Road Safety Working Group we now have some volunteers trained to run a Community Speedwatch programme. Our first session took place in August on Brook Street where 8% of drivers were found to be exceeding the 20mph limit and have been reported to the Police. Those drivers will receive a letter from the Police advising them that if they are caught again they may be fined.

Ensuring road safety is a priority for Benson Parish Council. We successfully implemented a 20mph speed limit throughout the village and have installed Speed Indicator Devices (SIDs) at key entry points on Littleworth Road and Watlington Road. SIDs display the speed of approaching vehicles, serving as a deterrent to speeding. Additionally, they collect data on vehicle speeds, which helps us monitor and address speeding issues more effectively.
