These show a similar trend for the year with relatively few drivers managing to drive at the village speed limit of 20mph.  The worst area is currently on the Watlington road where less than 1% of drivers keep to 20mph despite the poor sight lines, side roads and traffic calming measures.

At a recent village Speedwatch session on the Watlington road over 20% of road users were significantly exceeding the speed limit despite the visible presence of speed checks and a roadside speed information display. We’d like to have another Speedwatch session but need more VOLUNTEERS for this to happen. Please contact the parish office on comms@bensonpc.org.uk if you can help.

There is plenty of data to support the improved safety from driving at 20mph and it also creates a more pleasant environment for other road users, particularly cyclists and pedestrians. It is quite difficult sometimes to drive at 20mph,  it requires concentration. However, in the absence of any holdups, if you drive at 40mph you are only saving yourself 1 ½ minutes and if you drive at 30mph you are still only saving yourself 1 minute.

As the weather improves and more people walk or cycle in the village please lets all make Benson feel safer.
