Pavilion Redevelopment – New Youth Hub

The Pavilion is located behind the Parish Hall, next to the Faye Elizabeth Play Area.

We are at the beginning of an ambitious project to redevelop the Pavilion and create a modern, flexible space for young people and other community groups. The Pavilion was originally built in the 1990s with the support of residents, including fundraising initiatives such as the popular “buy-a-brick” scheme. Its purpose was to provide children and young people with a place to change and socialise before and after sporting activities, such as football, on Sunnyside. Over time, the building has deteriorated, and shifting expectations around accessibility, safeguarding and community use mean that it no longer meets the needs of today’s users. As the photographs show, the existing facilities now require significant improvement if they are to continue serving the community effectively.

To help shape the project, we recently carried out an online survey of young people in the village. The strongest message from the survey was a desire for a revived youth facility, providing safe and welcoming spaces for socialising, relaxing, hobbies and activities. We would like to thank everyone who took the time to share their views and ideas.

The working group is currently assessing proposals from architects and moving towards appointing a design team to take the project forward. As the project progresses and design proposals emerge, we will carry out further consultation with residents, community groups and other stakeholders. This will provide additional opportunities for everyone to comment on the plans and follow the development of the project.

Our aim is to create a welcoming, sustainable and future-proof community facility that will serve local residents for many years to come.
