OCC hasThames Travel Bus given us forward notice that from 31 August 2025 there will be changes to the Wallingford 139 bus service. In summary

  • Service 139 will be replaced by route 33, which will operate via Benson Monday to Saturday in both directions
  • Route 33 will reinstate two-way journey opportunities between Benson, Ewelme Green Lane and RAF Benson
  • Direct journey opportunities will now be available to Henley-on-Thames, Didcot, Milton Park and Abingdon in addition to Wallingford

The replacement service for 139 will hopefully address the main issues raised since the service changed to operate a one-way loop in 2024.

Although Thames Travel have not been able to re-establish direct journeys to Cholsey, hopefully the range of destinations available on route 33 will provide suitable alternatives.  In addition, route 136 to Cholsey will operate half-hourly from 31 August which will improve connections if travelling between Benson and Cholsey.

Thames travel will be publicising the changes and provide a public timetable within the next few weeks.
